BDSwiss Donates to UN World Food Programme for Second Year in a Row

To celebrate the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, BDSwiss is delighted to announce its latest donation towards the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). For the second year running, BDSwiss contributes towards a timeless and ongoing problem – world hunger. Our donation was enough to provide food to six families (of five people each) for an entire year. 

The world may be slowly and steadily moving on from the pandemic but world hunger is still tantalising big parts of our planet. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of The United Nations (FAO), in 2020 alone, between 720 and 811 million people faced hunger. Based on numbers provided by the World Health Organisation, more than 2.3 billion people (or 30 percent of the global population) lacked year-round access to adequate food. 

A 2022 study by the FAO and WFP, has found that war-torn nations like Yemen, Nigeria and South Sudan are faced with increasing food insecurity as conflict, economic shocks and natural hazards are putting millions of lives at risk. Taking a stance regarding this important problem, BDSwiss is donating a considerable amount towards WFP’s food security and emergency relief programmes with the hope of making a difference, helping people in need to celebrate Eid this year.

Social responsibility sits at the foundation of BDSwiss’ DNA. The company has made a commitment to give back to the community through different actions and initiatives aimed at creating a positive impact. These initiatives are diverse in nature and range from contributions to the Anti-Cancer Society to blood donation events.

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, providing life-saving assistance to millions of people worldwide, reeling under conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Over 20,000 people work in 80 countries to provide hunger relief, good nutrition, improved food systems, and critical assistance to build resilience against climate change. This includes school feeding programmes, women and child nutrition support, reducing losses of small farmers and helping communities prepare for climate-related natural disasters. Another interesting fact is that the WFP helps with 5,600 trucks, 20 ships and 92 planes, which are reaching the hungry every day – all 100% voluntarily founded.
